PSY 3180 - Course Evaluations
personal engagement ... critical thinking ... genuine rapport
Principles of Neuropsychology is a course I developed and added to the curriculum in the Biological category. This course is designed around a case study approach using Jenni Ogden’s Trouble in Mind as the primary text. Students explore a wide range of neurological conditions—from aphasia and hemispatial neglect to dementia and prosopagnosia—gaining insight into brain structure and function by examining dysfunction and disease. Through this hands-on, case-centered format, students connect clinical presentations to underlying neural mechanisms, developing both conceptual understanding and applied skills in neuropsychology.
These buttons link to course evaluations for PSY 3180 sections that I have taught since my promotion to Associate Professor.

“One strength of this course is the big project that we do. That project allows students to apply what they’re learning in the class in a ‘real-world’ situation. I enjoyed participating in the project.”
“I LOVE DR. CLARK AND I LOVED THIS CLASS! I love the way the course content is structured and Dr Clark is truly a great person who is so passionate about the brain and neuropsychology, and she cares deeply for her students and their success. I am so grateful that I got to take this class and I would recommend it to anyone.”
“Prof. Clark is always willing to help or simplify a complex concept. She also does a great job at hearing what you have to say, and even if it isn’t 100% correct, makes you feel appreciated for contributing.”
“Our instructor has been very real with us all semester helping me to view her as more of a person rather than just an instructor. Creating that relationship with her has allowed me to feel comfortable asking her questions and overall makes me want to do better in her class.”
“Dr. Clark is easily one of the best professors I have had. She makes the course interesting and engaging, so that even the homework can be enjoyable. What is expected from us is very clear, and I love getting to review case studies of people who have the neurological disorders that we learn about in class. Dr. Clark teaches concepts in a way that lets us remember what is most important about the content. The book is great honestly. Since it’s not a traditional textbook, it is easy to read and still informative. The case project is pretty fun.”
“The lectures are so much fun. The course is not like anything I have done before. It was all new information to me and ProfessorClark still made everything so simple to understand. The projects embedded in the course were so cool and so interesting. This isprobably one of my favorite psychology courses that I have taken thus far at UTC.”
Note about Fall 2022:
The Fall 2022 section of PSY 3180 had been scheduled in the face-to-face modality. But over that summer I was diagnosed with cancer, began chemotherapy, and I was excused from teaching during my active therapy. Fortunately, we found an adjunct instructor who agreed to teach the course but he was only able to do so if the course was shifted to the online modality. Unfortunately, part way through the semester, he quit all of a sudden, leaving the students without instruction. I agreed to take the class, despite finishing chemotherapy and undergoing surgery, and ended the semester as instructor of record. The student evaluations of teaching are included here, but are not a reflection of my typical teaching.
